Tonatiuh or Tlaltecuhtli - Aztec sun gods
Which Aztec god is the central face of the Aztec Cosmos?
No one seems to know. We have some theories based on the study of the Azteca culture, but it's still guess work.
The central face is probably that of a sun god. It could be an earth god or even a death god. Because of the frontal view, we know that it is probably an earth god such as this guy here, Tlaltecuhtli.
Whatever your views of this god, he would make an excellent tattoo. If you want me to add the colors, I would be happy to, just contact me and we will work something out.
If you do use one of these aztec designs for a tattoo, please send me a photo!
Another Aztec Earth God
Colorizing the tattoo designs
I can custom color my designs
The aztecs loved bright colors and so do I. One of the things about digitizing the tattoos is that I can change the coloring at will.
If you like greens for instance, I can mix and match all shades of green to give you a custom design.
This aztec god is an earth god and sort of resembles a frog to me. So I gave him green colors and some red for emphasis.
The aztecs did not always draw a face when they wanted to represent the earth. They often used animals to represent the gods.
Here is a complicated face design for a tattoo
A complicated aztec face design
Full frontal views are characteristic of the gods and goddesses of Earth or Death.
There is another sun god, the night sun of Aztec belief is the sun after it has set and has become one with the earth. That god's name is Yohualtonatiuh. It is unknown if this is the face of that god.
You are welcome to visit my art site - link below - to view my paintings of the various Aztec Gods. I've always found them to be interesting to paint. I also like the bright colors! Enjoy!

Thank you, Melissa! If you do get it, please send me a photo. I'm trying to develop a tattoo only page at my home web site and I would like to include a photo and a link for you!
I do understand why you want the individual to read your art. I wonder though if giving each piece an evocative title would work. Other than that, when you go to sell your art online, I do know that people want to have physical measurements, whether it's framed or unframed, the type of medium and a bio of the artist.
Keep up the good work!
WOW very cool....ttyl
Can you tell me the name of the Aztec earth god that is shown above?
I am seriously going to get it as a tattoo, and need to know the name of it if I'm going to put it on my body! Thank you!
The simple one is called Tlaltecuhtli
The ornate one is called Yohualtonatiuh
Good luck with the pronunciation! and the tattoo!
Thanks!
And juust to make sure, those are the names of the colored/frog-looking earth god in the middle? (the one beside the text talking about the color placement)
The frog looking earth god glyph is also Tlaltecuhtli represented as an animal. This god is represented by full frontal faces or an animal with open jaws on top. The open jaws are characteristic of Tlaltecuhtli.
Thank you so much!!!
I will post a picture when I get it done!
Awesome!

Here it is, as promised!
Absolutely Gorgeous, Bethany! I have posted it here. Great taste in tattoos! Love that "over the shoulder" look.
Thanks! I absolutely love it! It means so much to me!
You're welcome and thank YOU! I feel like I have been a part of your life :-)
Hi,
I like the complicated face design, is their anyway I could get a more detailed picture for my tattoo artist to use?
regards,
Oliver

Thank You very much for the pointers you left me. There is a big reason none of my art has a story about them. For the most part they are intended for the individual to read them and try and feel as they feel. I know it's strange but that is me. I seriously like these tat designs. I have many tattoos and I must say, I would so get the first on this hub. Great job! Thanks again.
