Tattoos to try before you buy
Scared to get a tattoo? Try one on for looks
Tattoos and skin art are usually permanent. That's the bad news. The good news is that you can try on all kinds of wearable art without committing to a lifetime of odd comments and yes, let's face it, ostracism.
Ostracism, from Miriam Webster Dictionary:
Pronunciation: \ˈäs-trə-ˌsi-zəm\Function: noun Date: 1588
1 :
a method of temporary banishment by popular vote without trial or
special accusation practiced in ancient Greece
2 :
exclusion by general consent from common privileges or social
acceptance
Yes, unfortunately, aside from the pain of the tattoo itself, you will be ostracized by certain groups of people and will be lucky to ever find a job again.
So get a temporary tattoo! Try it out with your friends and loved ones. See what they think. Try skull tattoos, dragon tattoos, butterfly tatts and other popular body art.
When you find the one you really love, you can have it permanently affixed to your skin forever!
Here is a lovely online shop that will let you try before you buy. It's called Temporary Tattoos.com. And if you click on the link, I will receive a small commission from your purchase. I promise not to spend it all in one place! So go ahead and try some tribal tattoos now!
Realistic looking tattoos
Fake tattoo? You decide
Tattoos that look real enough to fool your best friend
Some fake tattoos do look fake. But I gotta tell you that the secret is in the application. Make sure the area that you are applying the tat to is squeaky clean and hair free. Wipe it down with alcohol before application and let it dry.
With just a little bit of practice you can apply temporary tattoos that look amazingly like the real thing. They won't look fake and they will last for nearly a week, even if you shower, bathe, or go surfing.
Some temp tattoos look shiny after you put them on. Here's another secret. After you have applied the tattoo and it is dry and semi-permanent, dust it with a bit of baby powder. This will get rid of the shine and will actually make it look more realistic.
Now go out and show off that new angel tattoo!

Comments - Have you thought about getting one of these?
Hmmm..I don't think tasteful tattoos in proper places have any influence over getting a job or not. Especially in today's society when they've become so popular. Also, most are hidden in business attire unless the tattoo is across the face. They are not so taboo anymore. I do agree it may be a good idea to get a temporary one though first to make sure it's what you want.
That's basically the point. Once you get a tattoo, it is difficult to get rid of it. True, tasteful tattoos are ok in the workplace, but bosses do prefer them to be hidden from the customers! Unless you work in a bike shop, of course. Or something similar.
Sometimes hubby and I get temporary Celtic tattoos when we're at the beach!
i rather like the idea of a temporary......
Thanks for the tips. That is very useful. Another way to make it look more realistic is to cut around the design as close to the edge as possible so you don't get that extra, unnecessary material sitting on your skin. I like the idea of baby powder though! Thanks!
I saw the baby powder trick at a JC carnival. I got a dragon on my forearm that day. Way cool!
Haha! Temp tattoo's are fun! My husband was annoyed with me once - I wanted to make him laugh so I got a temp and stuck it on - it was a peace sign that had the words "give peace a chance" written inside the circle. It worked:)! Love this! Thanks for reminding me of that:-)
While I really like the idea of people trying fake tattoos before getting a permanent one is a great idea, it isn't quite accurate that a person will be ostracized or have a hard time finding employment. The person needs to be discerning about where they place it is all. Temp tattoos are quite beautiful but they are differentiated from permanent tattoos.

I really like the idea of the temporary tatoo - I have tried some and folks thought they were real! I'd love to do that dragon - and I'm also thinking of a henna. Great tip about the powder - I'll try it to reduce shine!
Great hub. Thanks so much!
