Shipping your stuff...

Listia

Listia is a new place I found on the internet for giving away stuff and getting stuff for free! They don't charge any fees. You may of course buy credits through PayPal in order to bid on some of the things being given away, but you don't have to.

It's definitely a 'One person's junk is another person's treasure' site. You sign up, which automatically gives you and your referrer instant credits. Then you list your first auction which is very simple and easy to do. Just click on the 'list auction' button and fill out the blanks. Uploading photos is encouraged. If you know how to get photos into your computer, then you can upload them from there.

After you publish your auction, you are going to have to mail whatever you want to give away. Listia allows you to charge for shipping, but most people offer free shipping in return for free shipping. If it's small and easy to mail, then go ahead and offer free shipping. If it's big, heavy, bulky, etc. then charge whatever you need to. See the shipping guide for USPS and others in the sidebar.

Shopping on Listia is easy. Just bid with your credits. There are lots of fun and interesting offers available and it's easy to search for what you want. So far, I have obtained (for free):

  • several charms for my dream catchers,
  • some coins,
  • a feather boa
  • a pet door flap replacement that I really needed.

Stuff I have given away - some for free shipping, some for exact shipping costs - include:

  • A Maylong wifi tablet
  • Some coins
  • some pin back buttons
  • Window's 95 Flight Simulator game
  • A cool key chain
  • Two very cool lab coats that can be used for Halloween costumes (mad scientist or Dr. Pain)

Click here on my Listia link to sign up and get free credits today! We both get free credits when you sign up with my referral link. After you sign up, you can refer your friends and get even more free credits. The more credits you have the more stuff you can bid on!

Want a great Halloween Costume?

A guide on what to give away or shop for free!

Trading and bartering on Listia is great. In some ways it's like eBay and in other ways, it's quite different. Listia is a smaller community of traders, although the site is growing rapidly. People are friendlier and they tend to have great stuff to give away!

My favorite kinds of things to give and get are easy to mail on both ends. But don't shy away from charging or paying for shipping as it's not really fair to expect someone to send you an iPad for free without charging shipping for it. Yes, people do list new stuff to give away. I am very impressed by some of the listings.

Antiques, arts and crafts, baby stuff, books, computer stuff, phones, toys and video games are just some of the many categories on Listia. The more stuff you give away, the more credits you get and the more fun you can have browsing through all of the treasure available!

Oh lord! An internet Salvation Army store? Don't let my wife see this!

I, however, might want to trade a few things. ^.^

Thanks for the newsflash, Lela, This site is news to me, too. At first glance, I thought you were reporting on the latest outbreak of listeria in melons. Who knew?

I joined a service like this in the UK, but I couldn't win anything! Someone always beat me to it for anything decent, so I gave up...no free lunch i guess...Bob

Bob, Listia is a give and take site. The more you give away, the more credits you get. Eventually you can accumulate enough credits to outbid anyone for the thing you want.

I'm writing an article about Listeria on another site (Examiner.com) It's about food safety for the holiday parties. So you were close.

Listia is just for fun.

Well how did I miss this?

I love playing on Listia - but I usually get out bid because I haven't accumulated many credits. It is very cool though!! I can't wait to have time to play on there some more.

Thanks for the info-do you think Listia is a better site than Craigslist for finding free or low-cost items?

Austinstar profile image

Austinstar Hub Author 7 months ago

Well, that depends on what you are looking for. Craigslist is best for local items.

I tried to sell a car on Craigslist with no success. I will try Listia next...

Uh, Nicomp, Listia is for giving stuff away! You can't sell the car there, but maybe you could charge enough in shipping to make it worth your while.

This is a really interesting hub. I've heard of Listia but have never actually been on the site. However you have really got my curiosity peeked so will have to have a nose round. I love to see what these sites have - I've been on Ebay for years - so to have somewhere new to have a look at will be really refreshing!

Many thanks for sharing the information. Voted up + interesting!

Thanks, I just gave away two books today. I'm experimenting with what I have to give away and what people want to bid on. So far, all I can say is that this is fun.
