Once upon a time, True Grits was called the Wildflower Cafe. It's the only cafe in Jonestown, Texas. If you blink going through the little town, you'll miss it. They have great country food, homemade desserts and a real friendly crew.
True Grits boasts an outdoor patio, and folks like to congregate there when the weather permits. This is the kind of Texas friendly that makes the state great. You're always welcome to join in and maybe even kick up your heels a bit to the great live music. It's pure country, but these are tunes you grew up with.
The night we went, the Jimmy Sims Trio was playing. Actually, it was only a duo and when Jimmy found out that Bob was in the house, he asked him to step in and play some bass guitar with them. Bob raced home, 10 minutes away, and grabbed his bass and hot footed it back to sit in with the band. Now Bob usually plays rock and roll and he is an accomplished lead guitarist, but Saturday night, he played bass guitar in a Classic Country and 50's rock Trio. Watch the little video to see the band and hear Jimmy thank Bob for sitting in.

Moonies Burger House
Craving an exceptional burger? Try Moonies Burger House in nearby Cedar Park, Texas. I don't understand the proliferation of sweet potato fries cropping up everywhere, but I've always enjoyed chili cheese fries. They are a Texas staple.
Some people have said that Moonies makes the best burger around or the best burger they have ever eaten. For sure, it's a great burger and nothing beats a great hamburger when that is what you are craving!
Interestingly enough, we ran into the Jimmy Sims Trio again. They play at both Moonies locations - the one in Cedar Park, TX and the one in Austin, TX at Hwy. 183 and Anderson Mill Rd. Jimmy has a voice very similar to the greatest Texas legend ever - Willie Nelson! I'm not joking about that. He sings "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" every bit as good as Willie. The Jimmy Sims Trio also play some Roger Miller tunes. Haven't heard those in a while.
Dinner and Live Music - It's a Texas treat.
The O'Leander Italian Cafe
After doing a bit of research on the Jimmy Sims Trio, I discovered that they also play live music at the O'Leander Italian Cafe in Leander, TX. As you can see on the map, it's just a triangle point away from the other live music venues they play.
The thing about the O'Leander Cafe is that I had the very best Hamburger Steak in my life there! They have been closed for remodeling lately and I am so craving another one of those Olivieri's Specials with home fries something fierce. I can't wait until they open their new location and we can eat there again. Bob says they make the very best Spaghetti With Everything too. It has peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni, sausage AND a meatball! It's a huge helping that will feed an entire family.
Now I have live music to look forward to as well!
I love this little area north of Austin, TX and apparently it has been discovered. It's one of the fastest growing areas in the state of Texas and maybe even in the whole country. So if you find yourself in the Austin area, now you know where to go to eat great food and hear some boot stomping live music!

Great hub, It's been a long time since my last visit to Austin. I was there in the Darrel Royal days and attended the UT/SMU game. Didn't get to any of these burger places but we did stop in at Shultz'
I'll come visit these yummy burger spots, Lela, when you give me advance notice of the dates when Bob will be playing his bass guitar there.
I have never been to Texas but if we travel there I will certainly want to look up Austin. The food, the entertainment sounds great. Very well done, hub.
Dang - all these food things tonight are making me hungry! Great info and wish I was there!

You have my mouth watering now. I just have to come for a visit sometime. Loved the video and Bob is pretty good. Now Star, Buddy Holly is a legend too, not sure who would be tops, him or Willie, but I do love both. Now, for some Chicken Fried. Zack Brown anyone?
